The Nature and Lives of Stars
As Students complete the Solar Siblings projects they progress from imaging and processing coloured images, many shown on the ‘images’ page, to analysing stars in open clusters to determine their distances. They do this through analysing the light from stars in the ultraviolet, blue, green, red, and infra-red parts of the spectrum. Students even learn how to take into account the change in light from stars as it passes through space dust. This is known as ‘interstellar-reddening’ and must be accounted for to get accurate estimates of distance.
As these more advanced projects are completed the related images and results will be posted here.
